May Campout - Backcountry Hiking - TENTATIVE

Posted on Mar 15 2017 - 6:29am

Heard of the sleeping bears?  North Manitou Island is one of the bears that inspired the Indian legend that gave the Sleeping Bear Dunes their name.  If you don't remember, North and South Manitou Islands are the two cubs that swam across Lake Michigan with their mother, fleeing a forest fire in Wisconsin.  The main dune on the shore is the mother, who laid down to wait for her cubs.  The cubs never made it to shore, and the mother lies waiting for them still.

He is also the Mackinac Island Blacksmith and Journeyman Bladesmith. All scouts will make a circular ring and forge weld together, they will also make a barn hook with the decorative twist, and all scouts and a Father or Mother or Grandparent will make a railroad spike knife.  This event is full.  No other signups are available.

Climbing at Planet Rock or hiking and disc golf at Hudson Mills

Posted on Mar 7 2017 - 11:20pm

We will do something very fun ahead of the spaghetti dinner Saturday night.  We will meet at Disciple House on Friday night and stay the night.  On Saturday, we will head either to Planet Rock or to Hudson Mills for a hike and some disc golf.  We'll then head back to the Disciple house, change into our Class A Uniforms and head over to help at the spaghetti dinner at the St. Joseph Parish Center.   After the spaghetti dinner, scouts will be released and should be picked up.

Let's go sailing Aug 6 - 11. Check your calendars!

Want to go sailing?  Of course, living in the Great Lakes State, this has to have come up.  The BSA Michigan Crossroads Council owns a 52-foot sailboat called Retriever that is based in Mackinaw City and that may be the perfect answer to expanding our Michigan horizons.  More details to come.  For now, this is just to get the word out.  We are targeting Aug 6 - 11.  We will have to make a reservation very soon, so check your calendars and sign up on the registration page.  Look for more information soon.
